Getting started

You should start to add items no more than eight weeks before your event date. If you add items too early, they may no longer be part of our product range when your guests start to buy.

Adding to your list

There are three ways to add items to your list:

In a John Lewis shop - visit the Gift List department and they will show you how to add items using our scanners. You can choose from our huge range of items - and don't forget to add a few fun items!

Select the item on johnlewis.com - we have a huge range of items available to add to your list using the website. Just login to Manage your list and go to Add items.

Add items by product code online - if you know the stock number (product code) for the item that you want to add, use our quick add by product code by logging onto Manage your list and going to Add items .

Once you have added items to your list, you can view and amend them using the website. Log onto Manage your list and go to Gifts available to buy. You can also ask any John Lewis shop to print and send you a copy of your list. Guests will be able to purchase these items from six weeks before your special day, and up to two weeks after.
back

Guest purchases

When an item is purchased, it is removed from your list to prevent other people buying the same item. We then source the item for you. Some items will be obtained and stored within a few days, others will take longer.

Some items are only ordered once your list is closed for purchase. This can be for different reasons depending on the product:
  • To give you the opportunity to purchase any remaining items from the range
  • To ensure all items are from the same manufacturer's print run
  • Special orders from the Supplier need to all be ordered at the same time
Your Gift List department will contact you when your list closes to ask if you are happy to order these items. Please ask your Gift List department if you are concerned about any of your orders.

Items are wrapped for safety and security and packed in a John Lewis Gift List box ready for your delivery; they are not gift wrapped. Your guests can take the gift away and gift wrap it if they wish, rather than having it delivered along with the rest.

Please note - if the item is purchased in a John Lewis shop and taken home, it's not automatically removed from the list. Your guest (or you, if you bought the item) must advise the Gift List department that the item has been purchased and should be removed from the list.

Delivery

You will be contacted by the Gift List department near to your event date (before or after) to arrange a delivery date for your gifts. If you would like some items delivered early, please contact the branch where your Gift List is held as soon as possible to reserve the delivery slot.

We aim to deliver everything together free of charge, however, if you select a timed or special delivery service rather than a standard delivery there may be a charge.

How do I change my password or personal details?

If you have forgotten your password or would like to reset it, or if you need to make any changes to your personal details, please contact the branch where your Gift List is held. Find your branch telephone number or email address here.
back

How do I remove items from my list?

You can remove items that have not been purchased by changing the quantity in Gifts available to buy on the website. Alternatively, you can contact your branch to ask them to remove the items.

If you want to remove items that have been bought but not yet delivered, contact your branch immediately.
back

What if there are items left on the list I'd like to buy?

You can still buy the items yourself and have them delivered along with the rest of your gifts if you choose. If you've requested gift vouchers, it's an ideal way of using them!
back

How do I return items from my list?

To return an item after delivery, take it to the appropriate department in a John Lewis shop. You'll need your final summary as proof of purchase - this lists the items which have been purchased by your guests. If you don't have the summary, contact the Gift List department at the branch holding your list before you attempt to return the item. Find your branch telephone number or email address here. All refunds on Gift List are given in the form of Gift Vouchers.
back

Can my guests purchase gift vouchers?

Yes, you can ask the Gift List department to add a message to your list asking for vouchers towards a particular item or group of items to help your guests decide what to buy. This will be displayed when your list is viewed by a guest.

You can ask the Gift List department to issue purchased gift vouchers to you at any time during the life of your list. They will need to see some ID if you're collecting them in person, and can often also arrange to send them to your home.
back

How do I inform my guests that I have a Gift List at John Lewis?

You can request invitation inserts to inform your guests that your list is at John Lewis when you register. Remember, you only need one per invitation, not per guest.

What can I put on my list?

We have a huge range of products, from leading brands and our own John Lewis brand products at a range of prices, all covered by our excellent after sale service and guarantees. Just be aware though, that if you opt for a product that?s to order only, it may take longer to deliver than those items available from stock.

How can guests shop and do they have to pay for delivery?

These are three ways for guests to shop - in any of our shops across the country, online or over the phone. So wherever your guests live, it should be convenient for them. Neither you nor your guests pay for delivery, so no matter what you put on your list, we'll get it to you free of charge.

When can I register for my gift list and how much does it cost?

You can register for your gift list as early as you like and any time up to 12 weeks before the day by going online, in person or over the phone at your local shop. You can also edit your list in any of these ways too. If you're running late or you're having a last-minute celebration, it's worth calling in to talk to us as we can often handle a late list. Setting up your list is absolutely free, as is delivery.

How do we know what's been bought for us?

We keep a full list of every item bought and the guest who chose it, so it's easy for you to keep track. If you decide to change an item though we're not able to notify your guest, so do keep a record of this for your thank you cards.

What happens if I want some gifts before and some after my event?

If you want to get some things ahead of your celebration date, for your honeymoon for example, please speak to your advisor. We can, with some notice, stagger your delivery to get some things to you early.

When will our gifts be delivered?

Your gifts will be collated, safely packed and delivered a few weeks after your celebration and your list has closed. Book your delivery date as soon as possible with your advisor.

Can I ask for donations to charity instead of gifts?

Provided you have a gift list set up, you can also offer your guests the option of donating to Cancer Research UK. Please ask your advisor for more details.

What if the same items on my list are cheaper elsewhere?

Never Knowingly Undersold is our lifelong commitment to giving you the best value through great products, at great prices, supported by great service. We know price is really important, and that?s why we put so much effort into getting it right. Find out more here.
Essentially, it means that if your guests see or buy a product from us and find it cheaper with a high street competitor (excluding online-only businesses such as Amazon), as long as their services such as delivery or guarantee terms are comparable, then we'll match that price for them when they buy, or refund the difference for up to 28 days afterwards if they've already purchased.

Charity Donations

All Gift List holders can choose the option of donating to Cancer Research UK as part of their Gift List. All donations raised will go towards supporting the work of Cancer Research UK. Charity donations can form the whole of your Gift List, or be offered as additional options on top of John Lewis products or gift vouchers. Just let us know if you'd like to add charity donations to your Gift List.
How it works
Your guests' donations will be held securely and transferred to Cancer Research UK when your Gift List closes to guests. Cancer Research UK will then use all donations towards their life saving work to save more lives by preventing, controlling and curing cancer. Cancer Research UK will claim Gift Aid through HM Revenues and Customs for any eligible guest donations, which will increase the value of your guests' donations by 25p in every eligible 1, meaning even more money to research into cancer.

Gift Aid is a Government scheme that enables charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs to claim the basic tax rate their supporters have already paid on their donations. As such agreeing to Gift Aid will increase the value of your guests' donations by 25% but it won't cost them a penny! To donate under the Gift Aid scheme your guests must be UK taxpayers and understand that if they pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of their donations in that tax year it is their responsibility to pay any difference. Your guests should inform Cancer Research UK of any changes to their tax status or personal details if they want to cancel their declaration, change name or address or no longer pay sufficient tax on their income.

Charity donations cannot be cancelled or refunded without written permission of Cancer Research UK, and if cancelled will be refunded to the guest. They cannot be exchanged for John Lewis gift vouchers or for another item.

You can add or remove this option at any time before your list finally closes to guests. However, if you remove this option after donations have been made, those will still be passed to Cancer Research UK when your gift list closes to guests.

Holiday & Honeymoon Contributions

If you have booked a Honeymoon with our selected travel provider - Kuoni - you can offer your guests the option to contribute to it through your Gift List. You can find out more about Kuoni Honeymoons here. You should only select this option if your holiday has been booked and confirmed. You will need to give us your 7 digit booking reference.
How it works
Your guests' contributions will be held securely and transferred to Kuoni when your list closes (usually 2 weeks after your event). Kuoni will either deduct the amount contributed from your balance to pay, or if you've already paid, refund the amount contributed to your original payment method. If the total value of contributions is greater than the total final value of your honeymoon the excess will be refunded as John Lewis Gift Vouchers.

Please note that this service is only available for Kuoni. This service is not available for travel booked directly through any other travel agent or tour operator.

Contributions cannot be converted to John Lewis Gift Vouchers or exchanged for gifts.

You can add or remove this option at any time before your list finally closes to guests. However, if you remove the option after contributions have already been made those contributions will still automatically be passed to Kuoni.

Please book your holiday before selecting this option. If you have not yet booked your holiday please leave this option blank and complete your registration. Once you've booked your holiday simply contact our Gift List department and they'll add the option and your booking reference.

Please note that in most cases you will be required to pay for your holiday in full, prior to your Gift List closing. Please refer to Kuoni's Booking Conditions for details.

Please see our Service Checklist and Terms and Conditions for further details
