How it works

If someone is holding a special event, such as a wedding or anniversary, their friends and family will naturally want to give them a gift to mark the occasion. Having a John Lewis Gift List means they'll receive exactly what they would like and there won't be any duplications. It's a free service, offering complete flexibility for both recipient and guests.

From about eight weeks before the event, the Gift List holder chooses a list of products they'd like to receive as gifts and notifies guests when the List is set up. Guests purchase gifts which are then checked off the list, and all the presents are delivered together on a date chosen by the Gift List holder.

How to buy

You can buy from a John Lewis Gift List in three ways - online, by phone or in a John Lewis shop.
Items are available to buy up to six weeks before the date of the event, and up to two weeks after it.

To buy from a list online, click here or use the Browse and buy from a list link at the top of the page.

The telephone number for guests is 0345 600 2202. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm, Saturday 8am - 6.30pm, Sunday 10am - 6pm. (Please refer to your service provider for call charges.)

To buy in person, pop into any John Lewis shop and visit the Gift List area. Your gift will normally be sent for delivery along with the rest, but if you'd like to gift wrap it and give it personally, you can take it away with you.

The John Lewis Gift List service is independent of the main johnlewis.com web site. You may find that different pricing and delivery arrangements apply. Please note that johnlewis.com coupons or gift certificates cannot be used with the Gift List Service.

Charity Donations

All Gift List holders can choose the option of donating to Cancer Research UK as part of their Gift List. All donations raised will go towards supporting the work of Cancer Research UK. Charity donations can form the whole of the Gift List, or be offered as additional options on top of John Lewis products or gift vouchers.

How it works

Your donations will be held securely and transferred to Cancer Research UK when the Gift List closes to guests. Cancer Research UK will then use all donations towards their life saving work to save more lives by preventing, controlling and curing cancer. Cancer Research UK will claim Gift Aid through HM Revenues and Customs for any eligible guest donations, which will increase the value of your guests' donations by 25p in every eligible 1, meaning even more money to research into cancer.

Gift Aid is a Government scheme that enables charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs to claim the basic tax rate their supporters have already paid on their donations. As such agreeing to Gift Aid will increase the value of your donation by 25% but it won't cost you a penny! To donate under the Gift Aid scheme you must be UK taxpayer and understand that if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year it is your responsibility to pay any difference. You should inform Cancer Research UK of any changes to your tax status or personal details if you want to cancel your declaration, change name or address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income.

Charity donations cannot be cancelled or refunded without written permission of Cancer Research UK, and if cancelled will be refunded to the guest. They cannot be exchanged for John Lewis gift vouchers or for another item.

Holiday & Honeymoon Contributions

As well as buying gifts you may be offered the option to contribute money towards the list holder's Kuoni honeymoon.

How it works

Your contributions will be held securely and transferred to Kuoni when the Gift List closes (usually 2 weeks after the event).

All contributions will be put towards the overall cost of the holiday. If they've already departed or paid in full, Kuoni will arrange a credit to the list holder(s). If the total value of contributions is greater than the total final value of the holiday the excess will be refunded as John Lewis gift vouchers.
